Edge 705 trainer and navigator pushes you to do your best, then shows you the way back. This GPS-enabled cycle computer knows no limits. Get heart rate, cadence, turn-by-turn directions, power data (from ANT+Sport™ enabled power meters) — the works. Even share your data with other Edge 705 buddies after your ride. All wireless with a color display, this is no ordinary cycle computer.

The Edge 705 provides mapping capabilities, street navigation and a 2.2-inch colour display in addition to tracking vertical profiles, climb and descent, altitude, speed, distance, and time. The new gps for cyclists offers SRM compatibility and wireless unit-to-unit connectivity. Through collaborative efforts with SRM — a pioneer in mobile power diagnostics for bicycles — Garmin for the first time gives cyclists the opportunity to monitor GPS position, power, heart rate, speed, cadence, altitude and gradient on the same display.

And Edge 705 users will be able to share their information – including courses, waypoints and workouts – with each other through ANT+Sport wireless technology. ANT Sport technology allows the Edge to interface wirelessly with a heart rate monitor, cadence sensor or other Edge units. Cyclists can share courses and workout data before, during or after a ride. When paired with an optional power meter from SRM, the Edge 705 measures power – torque and cadence for each leg at the pedals – which is often cited as a true indicator of an efficient ride.

The unit comes with turn-by-turn routing to destinations based on built-in maps and optional detailed street or topographical maps on preloaded data cards. Altitude is recorded using a barometric altimeter for the Edge 705. This accurate altitude data makes it much easier for cyclists to match their altitude profile with their speed, cadence, and heart rate during post-ride analysis. The Edge 605 measures altitude through GPS positioning.

the Edge 705 display the customizable data fields on large colour screens, and the addition of a click stick helps users navigate through the various options. Sleek, waterproof and durable, the Edge uses a GPS receiver to sustain reception in the most challenging conditions, such as heavy tree cover or urban canyons created by tall buildings. It attaches to either the stem or handlebars of the bicycle, and is designed for easy removal at the end of the workout. Garmin 705's heart rate monitor uses a robust wireless technology that eliminates cross-talk and interference and delivers real-time heart rate data exclusively to the user’s device. This data is stored with each track point for in-depth post-workout analysis.

Garmin Bicycling GPS

The Edge 705 with speed/cadence sensor incorporates a self-calibrating, wireless speed/cadence sensor that mounts to the rear chain stay of the bicycle. The speed/cadence sensor will also allow riders to record speed and distance data while turbo training indoors.

Edge 705 comes with a built-in basemap, plus it has a microSD™ card slot for adding map detail and storing workouts, courses and saved rides. Just plug in detailed MapSource® City Navigator® street maps on a preloaded data card and get turn-by-turn directions on a sunlight-readable, color display as you pedal. Add optional topo mapping for your off-road adventures. Edge snaps easily into the included bike mount to guide you to your destination.

Available in 3 versions (see versions tab), Edge 705 comes bundled with different accessories to keep you on top of your ride. Edge 705 automatically measures your speed, distance, time, calories burned, altitude, climb and descent, and records this data for your review¹. For extra-precise climb and descent data, Edge also incorporates a barometric altimeter to pinpoint changes in elevation. It features a high-sensitivity receiver that holds a signal under trees and near tall buildings, and comes with a click stick for easy screen navigation.

Like Garmin's vehicle GPS devices, the Edge 705 has different day and night modes (night mode uses dimmer colors that are less bright at night and easier on the eyes), and can be set to automatically switch between the two. Additionally, the backlight timer setting can be adjusted. It can wirelessly share data with other Garmin Edge devices, or with a PC (via the included USB cable).

Granted replaceable batteries is the best option, especially if you forgot to charge it before the ride. Quest doesn't hold a charge very long so must be charged before each use. They probably didn't want to have to deal with waterproofing the battery compartment to make it replaceable and the button cells probably don't provide enough power. We submitted a question to Garmin and they confirmed it does support multiple waypoints per route and operate under external power with a car charger available. You have to know that any phone usb charger will work.

Those already acquainted with previous Garmin Edge units will find the Edge 705 familiar and an easy upgrade. The unit feels very solid in the had and is easily operated one-handed. The button controls are intuitively placed on the unit, and the screen is bright and crisp. Those unfamiliar with Garmin's handheld units will find the learning curve somewhat steep at first, and will need to spend some quality time with the manual. Once mastered, however, the Edge 705 is a powerful GPS that provides navigation, training, and cycling capabilities not found on other units.

With Edge 705 you can share your courses, workouts and saved rides wirelessly with other Edge 705 users. Now you can prove that 20-mile uphill climb with a 2000-foot elevation gain. Better yet, send it to your buddy to ride. Sharing data is easy. Just select "Transfer Data" to send your information to other Edge 705 units within a 3-meter range. You rode hard and now you want to store and analyze your workout. With a simple connection to your computer, you can join a worldwide network of cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts through Garmin Connect™ — our new, one-stop site for data analysis and sharing. Also upload to optional Garmin's Training Center® software for further analysis.
