Elmira farm service - high sales in rural markets. Anderson sells a lot of vehicles, and the Internet plays a big role: more than a quarter of 2005’s 8,000-plus sales began as an Internet lead. We spoke with Randy Comer, corporate director of Internet sales, to learn how the dealer group has achieved such remarkable success.

you were a natural at selling cars face-to-face. How did you make the transition to the Internet. d sold 27 units, and he was looking at paying me a lot more than he ever imagined. This really opened my eyes to the power of the Internet and the opportunities that are out there for every single dealership.

But the geographical reality here is that people can’t easily hop in their car and visit a half-dozen dealerships - and so they’re even more likely to use the Internet, at least as a way of narrowing the field. When you take our casual atmosphere and respect for the customer and combine it with our Internet efforts, you’re bound to get great results.

While it was possible to do all these things using a dial-up connection, it took so long that the process was almost painful. With Web sites starting to use more and more graphics and with friends and relatives transmitting ever larger photo files and videos, high-speed Internet has become a necessity. "We’re finding with the rising cost of fuel that more and more people are working from home," says Quinton Eon, sales and marketing manager with YourLink, a Saskatoon, Saskatchewan-based company specializing in rural Internet services. "If they’re set up with a high-speed connection, it’s possible for them to work from home using a remote desktop or virtual private network (VPN)."
